Merlin Mann - Say Yes

merlin:

Proof of concept.

Hear that background noise? Yeah.

That’s because I just did 8 tracks of instruments and vocals on my fucking phone.

On the fucking street.

Just…wow.

Garageband on the iPhone. It isn’t the first music studio software on the iPhone, but neither was Garageband the first music studio software on the Mac. This could be kind of a big deal.

“Boy, when your users start writing Greasemonkey scripts to make your site un-bad … basically, your users just rented a blimp and are trying to tell you something.”

Merlin talks about “friends,” privacy, intimacy, Facebook, Instapaper, and lots of other stuff that’s well worth talking about.

“A friend is somebody who you trust with your stuff.”

  1. Yes, Van Hœt: I’m working on getting an audio-only version; no, Van Hœt: it won’t be in .flac or .ogg.

Seem sad and self-involved to unapologetically love something you helped make? Sure. Whatever. But, Jesus, does it ever feel a thousand times better than never having made something you genuinely think turned out great. Seriously. Now that I’ve had it both ways, I can highly recommend choosing to make things you like with people you think are awesome. By comparison, the private consolations of doing otherwise turn out to be surprisingly modest.
