A pilot speaks out about the absurdity of the TSA:

Speaking in a USA Today article, TSA spokeswoman Ellen Howe said, “Some of our officers aren’t respected.” It’s not often that I laugh out loud while reading the newspaper, but that one had me going. You don’t say.

So … how long until we start battling against this? I don’t think that I cared much until I took a job that requires me to fly at least eight times a year (to and from four conferences), so I understand why it still goes unnoticed by many, even though it’s one of the more offensive things that the administration has pulled off in the last decade.

But maybe it’s not that big a deal.

Maybe we should all just empty our luggage contents into a big, see-through plastic bag when we arrive. Maybe we should strip down when we enter the airport, and get dressed again when we leave the airport at our destination.

If—and of course this is a huge and very long-term use of the word if—we figured out how to bring teleportation out of science fiction and into reality in a form that is useful for moving people from one place to another, could we get rid of the TSA? What if something else happened that made flight-as-transportation unnecessary?

Or are we now going to have to keep the TSA around forever, just to bully us?
